Case Study: Enhancing Security at a UK Defence Site

Delivering advanced access control for a high-security environment

Recently, Advance Fire and Security received an enquiry regarding a specialist access control installation at a UK defence site. The project involved replacing an outdated and unfit-for-purpose system with a modern scramble access solution, specifically designed for use in sensitive and classified environments.

The client first approached us after finding Advance Fire and Security online while seeking support for a nurse call system repair. Following the successful completion of that work, the relationship developed further, leading to an invitation to tender for a full access control system replacement within one of the site’s most secure buildings.

From first contact to ongoing partnership

Our quick response and technical capability during the initial nurse call system repair helped establish a strong working relationship with the client. As a result, the site’s project team invited Advance Fire and Security to take part in a competitive tender to replace the existing access control system across two key entry points within the facility.

Following a detailed review of our technical proposal, we were awarded the contract to remove the old system, supply and install a new high-security scramble access control solution, and provide ongoing maintenance and technical support under a dedicated service agreement.

All works are being delivered with full discretion and strict adherence to site security protocols, ensuring complete confidentiality throughout the project. The ongoing maintenance contract ensures continued system reliability, compliance, and alignment with the site’s operational and security requirements.

High-security technology for sensitive environments

For a defence site of this nature, the scramble access control system being installed represents one of the most advanced solutions available, typically reserved for high-security government and military environments.

Unlike standard keypads, the scramble system randomises the layout of numbers each time it is activated, preventing the risk of pattern recognition or keypad wear revealing valid codes. In addition, restricted viewing angles ensure that only the authorised user can see the digits displayed.

The system offers:

  • Dual-factor authentication for enhanced protection
  • Randomised keypad layout to eliminate code tracking
  • Restricted viewing for added privacy
  • Compatibility with secure credentials and ID systems
  • Compliance with strict government-level security standards

Our engineering team will carry out the safe removal of legacy hardware, installation, commissioning, and full system testing, followed by continued maintenance to ensure long-term performance and compliance.

Supporting critical operations

This project highlights Advance Fire & Security’s role in supporting organisations that operate within some of the UK’s most secure and sensitive environments. Whether through rapid maintenance support or large-scale infrastructure upgrades, our priority is to deliver reliable, discreet, and compliant security solutions.

“We are pleased to have been selected to deliver this specialist access control installation for a highly secure site,” said Kevin, Director at Advance Fire and Security. “Our team understands the importance of getting every detail right, especially when working in high-security environments.”
